Quitting my job in order to travel

Quitting

For the past two years almost, I’ve been working as a waitress. A job that I did not study for, did not want to be doing for the rest of my life and a job that I mostly applied for because I needed to quickly get a job in the area where I live. Don’t get me wrong, I did enjoy doing it the first year or so. I still enjoy the fun talks with the guests and I have lovely collegues. I’m also extremely thankfull for the opportunity the restaurant gave me.
However, I’ve started to dislike the job about half a year ago and it’s gotten worse ever since. Every day is more or less the same and there isn’t really anything challenging about it. I didn’t quit the job though, because there was this voice in my head that said ‘If you quit your job without having another job you’re a fool! You’re an adult and should always have a job! It’s what everyone expects of you. Besides, how are you going to pay your bills?’ And you know what, part of what this voice said to me was true, but was it worth being unhappy for? No. That’s what I now realize.

My contract with the restaurant was about to end in July, so I had to leave anyways. I decided to take a leap of faith and just quit the job early. This means no income whatsoever for a while. And I honestly don’t even care at this point. This month, May 2018, is my last one working as a waitress. I am so happy I am almost able to just do exactely what I want and when I want. I will feel so free!

I will finally have more opportunity to start my own business, I will be able to travel whenever I want. Nobody will be telling me when I can and cannot eat or sit down. Nobody will be complaining to me about having to wait 2 minutes before being served anymore. But most importantly, I feel happier already!

New chapter

So what I would love more than anything in the world, of course, is to actually become a real travel blogger, travel influencer! How awesome would that be! I love writing, photography, being creative, social media, traveling of course as well, just all of it. I will need to be travelling of course in order to try and make this happen. Which is why I’m going to Amsterdam this week and Malta and another location -that’s still a secret for now, but I’ll give you a hint: it’s in Asia!- in June. I’m hoping to plan more holidays the coming weeks. Not all of them have to be far away or for a long time. All of my travels coming up have at least one thing in common though: I’ll be writing about them on this blog and I’ll be posting lots of pictures about them on my Instagram account. Check me out on there, @ijustwanttotravelto, if you want to stay up to date of all of my adventures. I’ve already got almost a 100 followers and it might not seem like a lot to you, but I’m so proud of it! πŸ™‚ I know I’m definitely not the best, but I do know I’ll try my very best. From failing and experience I’ll grow. So far I’ve posted pictures of my journey to Malaysia and trips to Utrecht, Havelterberg, Giethoorn and the tulip fields in De Noordoostpolder (last 4 are all in The Netherlands). I might even be vlogging my trip to Asia, I’ll let you know if I do! Would you like me to?

Another thing I’m going to do is start my own vegan bakery. At least, that’s the plan. I’m not entirely sure yet, I might also do a semi-vegan one and also offer non-vegan products while still ensuring people with certain allegies can also order delicous food from my shop. That way I would be able to cater to more people’s needs. Let me know what you think! I’ve even got an Instagram account for this as well: @natuurlijkbakkersgoed, in case you would like to check it out. Not much baking going on on there yet though haha.

It would honestly mean the world to me if you wanted to support me, give me feedback, tips, encourage me, critique me, or anything else that you feel might help me. I’d also love to hear from you what places you’d like me to visit next.

    1. Well, I travel and I blog about it so I sort of made it happen I guess hahahahah. Well, I saved up for quite a while before I was able to travel much. But if you’re still a law student, I can imagine traveling is hard. Just don’t give up on the dream πŸ™‚

      1. Well, if you really want it, work for it. You’ll make it happen. Just figure out a plan that has small steps so that you can notice the progress and keep reminding yourself of why you’re working so hard. There are a lot of things I had to give up while I was saving money. I never went to a restaurant anymore, not even for drinks. I didn’t see my friends that lived further away for a while. I took extra shifts at work. Strict grocery budget. That sort of things.
